Octopus Faster More Reliable Switching
Energy customers can now switch supplier in as little as 2 working days. Faster More Reliable Switching (FMRS) was introduced by Ofgem in July 2022 and is now offered by all energy providers, including Octopus. Why FMRS?

The energy industry hadn't changed the way it handles customer switching since the 90's. Previously it had taken up to 3 weeks to switch your gas and/or electricity to a new supplier. Now being able to switch in as little as 2 workings days means you spend less time paying your old rates to your old provider, so if you’re switching to a cheaper supplier you'll make immediate savings. Domestic customers can now switch in just 2 working days, business customers in 3 working days and prepayment customers in 5 working days (allowing time for the new supplier to send out replacement top-up cards & keys).          

5 Good Things To Know

1) You can still delay your switch to a later date should you wish.

2) There's still a 14-day cooling off period in which you can cancel, irrespective of whether your switch has completed.

3) The switch can be stopped up to 5pm the day before you're due to switch.

4) Your first payment will be taken 6 working days after sign-up or on your switching date, whichever is later.

5) After switching you need to remain with your new supplier for 5 days before you're allowed to switch again - previously this was 28 days.
