Cosy Octopus is a smart 3-rate electricity tariff designed for homes with heat pumps. Cosy Octopus comprises two 3-hour "double dip" periods of super cheap electricity, one 3-hour peak rate period and the remainder is charged at a day rate based on the standard variable rate for your location. What Is Cosy Octopus?

Cosy Octopus is a variable 3-rate smart tariff for properties with heat pumps and offers 6 hours of super cheap electricity to warm your home every day. There are no tie-ins or exit fees, so you're free to change tariff (or supplier) without penalty whenever you like.

What's The Benefit Of Cosy Octopus?

You can warm your home for less by shifting your heat pump use to the two 3-hour cheap periods.

When Are The Cheap And Peak Rates?

The super cheap periods (around 16p/kWh) are 04:00-07:00 and 13:00-16:00 every day and are 40% cheaper than the Flexible Octopus rate for your region. The peak rate is 16:00-19:00 and is priced 60% above your local Flexible Octopus rate, around 43p/kWh. The day rate is all other hours and is charged at the Flexible Octopus rate for your area, around 27p/kWh. The standing charge is around 60p per day. You can check current prices on the Octopus website by submitting your post code.

So I Need A Heat Pump?

Yes, but it can have been installed by any supplier, not just Octopus. If you're currently getting a heat pump installed, you can still sign up to Cosy Octopus. Octopus might ask you to provide the MCS certificate for your heat pump installation. Do I Need A Smart Meter To Join Cosy Octopus?

Yes. Octopus need to be able to receive half-hourly electricity readings. This generally means you need a Secure brand SMETS1 smart meter or a SMETS2 smart meter. If you don't have the correct meter, Octopus can install one for you without charge.

How Do I Sign Up To Cosy Octopus?

You need to be an Octopus customer. If you're new to Octopus Energy you'll initially be placed on an interim standard tariff while Octopus connect to your smart meter.
