How Does The Intelligent Octopus Go Tariff Work?

Intelligent Octopus Go pairs directly with your car using KrakenFlex machine learning to find out the best time to charge. The Octopus app allows you to set when you need your car charged and to what state of charge. Octopus will map a Smart Charge Plan every day and charging will take place when it's cheapest (over the time your car is plugged in) and greenest for the grid. Between 11.30pm and 5.30am you'll pay just 7.5p/kWh and around 30p/kWh outside these hours. The standing charge is about 60p per day.

What Is A Bump Charge?

If you need to charge your electric vehicle right away, you can schedule a Bump Charge through the Octopus app. The unit rate will depend on whether you're charging in peak or off-peak hours.

What Do I Need To Get On The Intelligent Octopus Go Tariff?

Intelligent Octopus Go currently operates with over 280 cars from top EV brands, or any EV which uses an Ohme charger. Octopus are expanding the vehicles, chargers and operating systems compatible with Intelligent Octopus Go all the time, so check the Octopus website for the latest information. Customers will also need a smart meter and an iOS smartphone (running iOS 14.0 or later) or an Android smartphone (running Android 7.0 or later) to manage smart charging via the app.

Is My Smart Meter Compatible?

SMETS1 meters are in the process of being upgraded with the correct functionality, but if your SMETS1 meter is made by 'Secure', Octopus may already be able to read it. If you have a SMETS2 meter you're sorted. If you don't have a smart meter you can request one free of charge and Octopus Energy will get in contact when an appointment is available.
