Is The Octopus App Available For My Mobile Phone Or Tablet?

The Octopus iOS app is currently in beta testing and is available for users of Apple's iPhone and iPad. The Octopus Android app is also in beta. As an alternative to downloading an app, mobile users can add their online account to the home screen of their device (see below for more details).

How Does The Octopus App Work?

The app works just like your online account. Technically it’s a ‘wrapper’ of the online account in an app form, so it has all the same features and benefits, but you can download it as an app for your phone. 

Do I Need The Latest Software Upgrade?

Your Apple device needs to be running iOS 14.1 or later and your Android device requires Android 8.0 or later. The ‘wrapper’ solution means that whenever Octopus release the ability to do a new thing on your online account, it will automatically appear in the app.

The Octopus App download size for your Apple device is 123.2MB (version 3.61.0) and for your Android device it's 29MB (version 3.61.0).

What Can I Do On The Octopus App?

In short, everything you can do in your online account, including: send Octopus a meter reading, view your balance, transactions and billing history, tell Octopus you’re moving house, make a card payment, amend your direct debit and if you’ve got a smart meter, see how much energy you're using.

Where Do I Download The App?

Head to Apple's App Store to download the iOS app and visit the Google Play Store to download the Android app.

What If I Don't Have Enough Space On My Phone?

You can add your online account (in web form) to the home screen on your phone. This makes it feel more like an app although it doesn’t take up as much space - around 50kB vs up to 100s of MB. Some users may also appreciate the fact that it doesn’t have as much access to your phone’s hardware as a native app.

How Do I Add My Online Account To My Home Screen?

Customers on some platforms, such as Chrome on Android, will see an automated prompt to add their online account to their home screen. You can dismiss this prompt and it won’t appear again for 90 days. If you don’t get a prompt just choose the option to “Add to Home Screen” in the browser menu.
